How to Market Your Medical Practice to a New Generation: First Get to Know Them
As the Affordable Care Act “Obamacare” continues to roll out, the hope is that more young people will sign up and start scheduling doctor and dentist visits. Medical practitioners are scrambling to understand how to market a new generation who expects an elevator pitch over a brochure, and expects to be able to find everything on the internet in about 2 minutes or less, and then call or, better yet click, to book an appointment.
If you’re still standing on the sidelines, it’s time to jump in and start trying out new ways to market your practice and yourself. But before you buy or download anything, make sure you have the basics down:
1) Get to know your new target patient. The more detail you can put together, the better. If you already have a practice, you can take a closer look at your younger patients. How do they like to receive information? How do they communicate? Ask! If you are just starting out, you’ll have to make those decisions based on your area of expertise, your community, competition, and with input from friends and colleagues.
2) What is your unique value to this younger set of patients? Are you more personable? Less waiting? Easy to book an appointment? Better technology and less pain? Cool waiting room? Friendlier staff?
3) What are some common challenges that you need to conquer to win their trust? Ask current patients, or reach out through neighbors and friends. What do they not like about going to the dentist or doctor? Now identify ways to remove the obstacles.
Doing this work on the front end will help you find your voice and communicate your value to your prospective patients. You will be in a much better position to identify which online marketing tools and channels are most likely to be effective. More on tools and channels in our next blog. Stay tuned!
